Berlin, May 2019: The Berlin proptechs Sensorberg and HomeBeat.Live have qualified for the finals of the PropTech StartUp Europe Award after beating out a large number of competitors in the European semi-finals in Brussels on 6 May. 126 tech companies from all over Europe pitched for the first-ever European proptech contest. An international jury of decision-makers from the property and digital sectors, including JLL, PwC, Innogy, Deloitte, RICS and BNP Paribas Real Estate, selected ten finalists in total. Sensorberg, the provider of IoT solutions for the digitalisation of residential and office properties, took second place, while the digital communications platform for residential property residents, owners and operators HomeBeat.Live secured tenth place. The two proptechs are the only German companies among the finalists. The other proptechs are from Finland, Slovakia, Ireland, Belgium, France and Sweden. The ten selected companies will be pitching for the Award at the MIPIM PropTech Europe finals in Paris on 1 and 2 July.

The PropTech StartUp Europe Award is part of the StartUp Europe Awards, an initiative by the European Commission and the non-commercial Finnova Foundation to promote new companies throughout Europe. Launched in 2017, the StartUp Europe Awards are now held in 22 different categories. This is the first year to include proptechs as well. Coordinated by the European proptech network, PropTech House, the PropTech StartUp Europe Award is intended to generate greater visibility for promising start-ups in the real estate industry..

Stefan Scheuerle, CRO of Sensorberg, which came out on top in the “Manage & Operate” category, said: “It is a good sign that new digital business models are now being promoted and put out there in this way on the European stage. Because of this, we are grateful to be able to participate in this event and we’re excited about the finals. Even though only a few start-ups made it through to the next round, the innovation was palpable in everyone’s presentation. I have the utmost respect for everyone who has taken part.”

Bruno Acar, Gründer and CEO of HomeBeat.Live, added: “We are delighted that two German proptechs made it to the top ten first time out. There is enormous potential for innovation in the real estate industry and now is the time to bring solutions to market. The PropTech StartUp Europe Award is a massive help in raising the profile of digital innovation at an international level. We’re looking forward to an exciting final in Paris with our nine fantastic fellow competitors.”
